Full-Time Assistant Director
The Assistant Director is responsible for the administration of programs Stafford County Economic Development manages.
The Assistant Director works closely with funding sources, volunteer boards and committees, local businesses, community organizations, and the Executive Director. Such relationship building requires strong interpersonal skills, organizational talents, and communication ability. As business development is fundamental to economic development work, Assistant Directors have content knowledge in business management and financial reporting. Must be willing to establish residency in Stafford County.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience beginning at $35,000, with opportunity for advancement. Single health insurance, simple IRA, paid vacation, flexible schedule. This is
considered a full time position, but for the right candidate a part time arrangement will be
Promote and inform the public about Stafford County Economic Development and its programs through e-newsletter, social media, traditional news outlets, monthly radio program, alliances with organizations or groups whose purpose aligns with Stafford EcoDevo, or other appropriate means of communication and public relations.
Conduct financial recordkeeping responsibilities, including entry and coding of financial transactions, reconciling bank records, preparing checks and financial reports for monthly board meetings, archiving financial records, submitting payroll, and quarterly reports to regarding e-community activity.
Oversee successful implementation of grant-funded activities, following grant agreements,
maintaining good communication and relationships with funders, and completing timely reports
Develop, manage, and evaluate selected Stafford County EcoDevo program activities including
Entrepreneurship Community activities, housing development and oversight, and entrepreneurship training
Maintain a knowledge base that supports advancement of Stafford County growth, organizational development, community well-being and other areas directly related to
advancing Stafford County EcoDevo’s focus
Perform management and oversight of Workspace 311 facility as well as other assigned properties
Engage and oversee interns, AmeriCorp VISTA program and members, and volunteers
Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops that are determined to enhance skills and encourage networking necessary for the position
Pursue opportunities to promote Stafford County EcoDevo’s mission through such methods as policy development, convening, and collaborating with other key organizations
Assist with the preparation of communications with the Board of Directors and the public
Represent Stafford County EcoDevo at local organizational meetings, public events, regional or
statewide meetings as necessary
Other duties as assigned
Self-starter who will identify opportunities for projects and activities that further Economic
Development’s goals and organize daily duties according to short term deadlines and long term
Quick Books and Microsoft Office suite
Schedule flexibility to meet the variable demands of Stafford County EcoDevo’s activities
Ability to manage conflict and an ability to make progress toward an end goal despite uncertainty
Ability to work closely and collaboratively with the Executive Director, but also to work
independently in a manner that is supportive of the organization as a whole
Broad knowledge of business management, non-profit management, and public administration
Understanding of community, state, and federal economic development programs and activities
Good judgment and maturity, with an ability to identify and address organizational needs, make
decisions, develop and justify recommendations, resolve conflicts, be responsive and clear with
others, maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion to promote organizational reputation
Demonstrated commitment to Stafford EcoDevo’s mission of promoting economic growth and community development
Excellent time management skills and an ability to manage multiple tasks
Polished and professional personal presentation and appearance
Other skills of interest:
Basic knowledge of construction and ability to perform minor building maintenance
Must be authorized to work in the U.S., able to maintain a valid driver’s license, be able to pass
a drug test, criminal background check, and credit history. Driving record will be evaluated.
