Under general supervision of the Zoo Director and Zoo Curator, performs manual work related to the greeting of zoo patrons and the maintenance of the Raptor Center. This position is FLSA non-exempt.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Greets patrons and serves in a customer service capacity for all visitors to the zoo.
B. Serves as a cashier for all merchandise sold at the Raptor Center.
C. Assists in selling Zoo Society memberships.
D. Assists in scheduling the Raptor Center and Zoo for field trips, use of the meeting facility, etc.
E. Performs general building maintenance including cleaning, minor repairs, etc.
F. May assist in diet preparation for animals when needed.
G. Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations, handling duties in the event of an emergency as directed by the Curator and Zoo Supervisor as well as work to keep visitors calm as necessary.
H. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
A. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles, objectives, practices, and procedures of the zoo.
B. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
C. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with governing body, city administrators, department heads, employees and the public.
D. Ability to use sound judgment and common sense, think logically, and make appropriate decisions.
E. Requires a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Some experience in working with the public and general building maintenance is preferred.
Work performed is inside work and will include physical activity associated with cleaning, building repairs, clerical and other duties as assigned by the Curator and Zoo Supervisor.
