The Executive Director is responsible for managing the organization and its projects and programs as well as carrying out the directions and resolutions of the Board of Directors.

Reports to: Board of Directors

Position: Full-Time Exempt, with some schedule flexibility. Will require the attendance of some evening and out-of-town events.

Work Location: EcoDevo’s Office (311 N. Broadway St., St. John)

Compensation: Salary will be set based on experience. Entry-level candidates can expect to make $40,000 per year. More experienced candidates up to $51,000.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day affairs of the organization including supervising all employees, coordinating contract services, and keeping records
  • Prepare monthly board reports that included an agenda and necessary documents prior to the monthly board meetings and provide additional information and updates to the board as needed
  • Develop, implement, manage, and evaluate projects and programs
  • Write and administer grants, following grant agreements, maintaining good communication and relationships with funders, and completing timely reports
  • Work with the Finance Committee to prepare the annual budget for board approval
  • Serve as the face of the organization and generated publicity through flyers, radio interviews, attendance of and participation in community meetings, appropriate means of communication and public relations
  • Build and maintain relationships with collaborative partners, grant funders, and community leaders
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops to represent Stafford County EcoDevo and that are determined to enhance skills and encourage networking necessary for the position
  • Manage the building at 311 N. Broadway St
  • Host annual youth entrepreneurship challenge competition
  • Maintain a knowledge base that supports advancement of Stafford County growth, organizational development, community well-being and other areas directly related to advancing Stafford County EcoDevo’s mission
  • Pursue opportunities to promote Stafford County EcoDevo’s mission through such methods as policy development, convening, and collaborating with other key organizations
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Self-starter who will identify opportunities for projects and activities that further Economic Development’s goals and organize daily duties according to short term deadlines and long term objectives
  • Ability to work closely and collaboratively with the Board of Directors, but also to work independently in a manner that is supportive of the organization as a whole
  • Good judgment and maturity, with an ability to identify and address organizational needs, make decisions, develop and justify recommendations, resolve conflicts, be responsive and clear with others, maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion to promote organizational reputation
  • Broad knowledge of business management, non-profit management, and/or public administration
  • Ability to manage conflict and an ability to make progress toward an end goal despite uncertainty of resources
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to use a computer and software including the Microsoft Office suite, Google Drive, and Quickbooks, as well as to learn new technology and applications as needed
  • Demonstrated commitment to Stafford EcoDevo’s mission of promoting economic growth and community development
  • Polished and professional personal presentation and appearance
  • Ideally, have an understanding of community, state, and federal economic development programs and activities

Must live in or be willing to relocate to Stafford County

Must be authorized to work in the U.S., able to maintain a valid driver’s license, be able to pass a drug test, criminal background check, and credit history.
