Corrections Officer I positions are now open, with starting pay of $18.26/hour. If you work, 2pm to 10pm or 10pm to 6am, you will receive an additional $0.30/0.50 an hour shift differential. Pay increases to $18.70/hour after successfully completing three months of employment. Pay increases to $19.16/hour after successfully completing nine months of employment. Pay increases to $20.13/hour after successfully completing one year probationary period. Pay increases to $20.58/hour after successfully completing two years of employment as a Corrections Officer I.

$6.00/hour pay differentials through June 2023. It will be revisited by the legislature next spring to decide if the pay differentials will continue in the next fiscal year.

The primary mission of this position is to protect and serve the public; the secondary mission is to promote change in the residents’ behavior through modeling and improving problem solving, communication skills, and work ethics. This position provides immediate supervision to all levels of the resident population during a routine shift, resolves problems, and responds to emergencies with the goal of creating and maintaining a safe living and working environment. Ultimately the goal is to modify the incarcerated residents’ behavior so that they may, if judged appropriate by the laws of Kansas, re-enter society and become productive law abiding members of a community.

Job duties include: Supervises, maintains discipline and control of residents in their living quarters, at meals, in classrooms, at work site, activity and program areas, in the hospital, kitchen, and bathing areas; while they are segregated for punitive, protective, and administrative purposes; while they are on work details (inside and outside).

Candidates must: be at least 18 years of age; have a high school diploma/GED; be felony-free; possess a valid Driver’s License; and have no DUI convictions in past 24 months. Successful Candidates must pass a background investigation, employment check, drug screen, and physical.

If relocating to Kansas, moving expenses are paid for by the candidate. LSCF does not pay this. Pawnee County is part of the Rural Opportunity Zone (ROZ) Program. If you move to Pawnee County and qualify, you may receive Kansas income tax waivers for up to 5 years and/or student loan repayments up to $15,000.
