Under the supervision of the Utility Billing Office Manager, the Utility Billing Account Clertk performs clerical duties. This position provides citizen assistance, receives utility payments, and performs data entry duties. Processing utility orders and citizen inquiries are the primary responsibilities of this position. This employee should possess excellent communication, office, organizational, and public relations skills.


Updates customer files for water, sewer, and refuse billing; Provides citizen assistance by fielding questions, concerns, and complaints; Answers and directs incoming telephone calls; Processes orders for connection or disconnection of utility services; Opens mail and processes payments.
Prepares service orders for service technicians; Balances cash drawer; Receives utility payments, enters payment information in the computer, and posts payments; Totals checks and stubs daily.
Performs general clerical duties including typing, filing, and photocopying; Refunds deposits; Updates customer master files and prepares delinquent account files; Processes refuse orders daily; Prepares reports and prepares pay agreements.
Performs daily entry duties; Completes and prepares reports; Prepares utility bills and notices.
Performs all other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.

Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. A technical degree or some college credit is preferred.

Experience: One or more years of similar or related experience is required. The employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well within six months of employment.

Certifications/Licenses: A valid Kansas driver’s license is required.
